The School of Personalised Learning (SPL) has been recognised with a Bronze Award in the Pearson National Teaching Awards. This is a prestigious national honour celebrating excellence in education across the UK.
This award, given in the Best Team category, highlights SPL’s exceptional collaboration, dedication, and impact in delivering Pearson qualifications. Competing against educational providers from across the country, SPL at St Vincent stood out for its unified approach and commitment to personalised learning.
passionate and supportive SEND staff
The nomination was submitted by Head of Specialist Education Mel Williams (pictured furthest left), who has worked in SPL for 20 years. Mel is deeply passionate about the quality of education, particularly within special educational needs and disability (SEND).
For Mel, the award was a chance to celebrate the team – recognising the more visible roles and those whose contributions can go under the radar. She described SPL as a “well-oiled machine,” where every role is valued and respected, and where teamwork is at the heart of everything they do.
To celebrate the achievement, the team shared the news together and are in the process of creating individual certificates so every member of SPL can have their own copy. The original certificate will be proudly displayed in the office, but the recognition very much belongs to all.
personalised learning
This award reflects SPL’s commitment to helping a range of learners thrive. Students at SPL follow tailored pathways from ages 16 to 19, progressing into sixth form, work skills programmes, or more independent futures. The team’s work is vital to the college and community, supporting students from Gosport and beyond.
Mel believes the award confirms SPL’s place as one of the most outstanding and successful provisions in the college. Her hope is that this recognition will help the department grow, with more classrooms, resources, and opportunities to support students.
Congratulations to the SPL team – this award is testament to their dedication, unity, and the life-changing impact they have on learners every day.
