Teaching & Learning
Lighthouse Learning Trust has a strong and meaningful vision, mission and set of values, which put learners first and at the heart of all that we do.
The vision of the Trust is to deliver educational excellence ensuring individuals thrive and make a positive change to their communities. We aim to offer outstanding career focused education training and opportunities and bespoke curriculum where needed for everyone to unlock their potential.
The Trust has a significant track record in securing capital investment for new facilities and projects across our current colleges which have included Construction, SPL, Esports and more recently T Levels. With a strong forward-thinking Board of Trustees and senior management team, there is more opportunity to develop this strategy.
The Trust has an excellent relationship with its feeder schools and has a growing reputation with the community in Southampton and Gosport. After the introduction of two successful festivals, Summerfest at SV and Winterfest at RT, which opened the doors to people who may never previously have visited the colleges and demonstrated how we use our facilities for large, inclusive events.
In addition the Trust offers a stand-alone SEMH provision to allow students lacking in resilience and confidence to transition into vocational and academic pathways of their choice.
There is an extensive adult education offer which not only offers community courses but gives adults returning to education and/or work the opportunity to gain qualifications. This has been evidenced by many success stories showing how from starting a community taster course has led to university and a professional career.
To ensure that the Trust provides opportunities for everyone we actively seek feedback from potential students on their needs at events and open evenings. As a result, we have introduced new provision according to demand in Esports, T Levels and Construction.
To ensure all students have a career goal we introduced career pathways, and these apply to all students to help them to identify and achieve their ambitions.
The Trust has good relationships with employers with some of the largest being Dell Technologies and NHS Southampton. We hold regular careers fair with excellent participation from employers (usually more than 40 at each event). Supporting our SPL students into sustainable employment and progression opportunities is at the forefront of our Workskills programme. This is an introduction to work programme tailored to support students’ progress in work. In addition, there is a specific SEND careers fair annually.
